Two weeks after the world bid farewell to Ozzy Osbourne, the medical report confirming the legendary rock icon’s cause of death has finally been released. According to official sources close to the family and the attending medical examiner, Osbourne died due to complications related to progressive Parkinson’s disease, compounded by advanced-stage respiratory failure.
Osbourne passed away peacefully at his Los Angeles home on July 23, 2025, surrounded by family, including his wife Sharon Osbourne and children Jack and Kelly. His health had been in steady decline since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2020, a condition he publicly acknowledged in a deeply emotional interview on Good Morning America five years ago.
"He fought until the end, but the strain on his body was immense," a family source told Rolling Stone.
Over the past year, the former Black Sabbath frontman had canceled several appearances, including festival headliners and his final farewell tour stops, due to recurring health setbacks. Respiratory infections, weakened immunity, and mobility issues had kept him largely out of the public eye in 2024 and 2025.
Despite these health battles, Osbourne remained a symbol of resilience and rebellion. He often joked about cheating death “more times than anyone deserves.” But behind the humor was a man facing years of compounded health issues, including spinal surgery, pneumonia, and the degenerative effects of Parkinson’s.
His death certificate, which became public on August 5, lists the primary cause as “neurodegenerative disease (Parkinson’s-related) with secondary respiratory system failure.”
A memorial concert featuring members of Metallica, Foo Fighters, and Black Sabbath is now being planned for later this year at the O2 Arena in London, celebrating his unparalleled legacy in rock music.
Fans and musicians worldwide continue to share tributes, recounting the seismic impact Ozzy had on heavy metal and popular culture. From biting heads off bats to redefining stage presence, Osbourne’s story was one of transformation—from troubled Birmingham boy to international icon.
“Ozzy wasn’t just a musician. He was a force of nature,” said Lars Ulrich in a recent interview with NME.
A Lasting Legacy
Ozzy Osbourne sold over 100 million albums globally and inspired generations of musicians. From Black Sabbath to his solo career and even his reality TV fame, his life was nothing short of extraordinary.
Though his body has left the stage, his voice, music, and rebellious spirit will echo across arenas and playlists for decades to come.
